St. X grad claims top spot in North & South Amateur Championship

Matt Savage wins golf tournament
Matt Savage, a 2005 St. Xavier High School graduate, wins the nations most prestigious amateur tournament last Sunday. The 108th North & South Amateur Championship, at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina, was won by Savage after the 40 hole final. Savage beat the former NCAA champion Jamie Lovemark. Savage is going to be a senior at Florida State University, and ranked No. 45 in the Golfweek/Scratch Players World Amateur Rankings.
Savage has plenty of momentum for next week's Southern Amateur in Orlando, Fla. He'll also play in the Porter Cup, which is set for July 23-26 in Niagara Falls, N.Y., and then enter a qualifier for the U.S. Amateur.
