The hot stove of Houston is heating up as the recruiting season begins to reach a boiling point.

Klein’s Eric Tomlinson verbally committed to the University of Texas-El Paso, while Klein Forest safety Adrian Bennett committed to Iowa State. Cy Creek offensive lineman Cameron Fleming changed his commitment from TCU to Stanford.

“Eric is a 6-foot-6 athlete who can play tight end or defensive end in college,” Klein coach Stan Labay said. “Tomlinson has great hands and can run really well. His brother plays at North Texas on the offensive line. I think if he puts on weight, he can be a great offensive tackle.”

The 6-foot-2 Bennett has patrolled the secondary all season and joins Eisenhower Cqulin Hubert at Iowa State as Houston-area Cyclone commits.   Senior sleepers gaining interest in Houston include Oak Ridge’s 6-foot-2 Ryan Cyr and running back Torian Oakley.

“Cyr could play quarterback, H-back or linebacker in college,” Oak Ridge coach Bob Barrett said. “He’s a great leader and he’s so physical. Torian is an explosive running back, who has made great strides as a senior.”

Houston-area juniors Jermichael Selders and Desmond “Tank” Jackson are also accumulating offers. Selders, Cy Creek’s running back who has rushed for over 1,000 yards, has been offered by Arkansas. Jackson, the 6-foot-2 Westfield defensive end, has been offered by Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Baylor, TCU, Houston, Stanford and Arkansas.

“I’m pretty open right now,” Jackson said. “I’m excited about the process. I’m hoping to hear from the likes of Texas, LSU and Florida. I don’t mind going out of state, I just want a good fit.”   Jackson suffered a high ankle sprain earlier this season and will be returning this week against Klein Collins.
