Third-ranked Park Tudor captured the sports season's second team state title at North Central High School last weekend, defeating eighth-ranked Bloomington South 3-2.
The Panthers' win marked the program's seventh boys tennis state championship and second in four years for both the team and coach Dave Heffern.
Park Tudor's Brendan Tannenbaum took a 6-1, 6-2 decision from David Wong at No. 2 singles and the No. 2 doubles tandem of Jack Miles and Sam Geier prevailed 6-3, 6-0. The No. 1 doubles team of Derek Reinbold and Matt Neal clinched the Panthers' title witha 6-3, 6-2 victory.
Prior to the championship match Saturday afternoon, Park Tudor defeated No. 22 Concord, 5-0, during Friday's quarterfinals and No. 9 Center Grove, 3-2, in the semifinals on Saturday morning.
Park Tudor's Kishan Shah was named the Mental Attitude Award winner. The Panthers concluded the season with a 19-2 record.
The individual boys tennis state finals commences Friday at Park Tudor School, beginning with the quarterfinal round at 2 p.m. The semifinals will take place Saturday at 10 a.m. with the finals set for 2 p.m.
Brebeuf Jesuit will be represented by singles player Dougie Barnard (19-1, 4-0), a junior, who will face West Lafayette's Joseph Frank (18-3, 7-0) on Friday. The Braves also will send the doubles team of Charlie Hurst and Chris Plump (20-0, 4-0), who will contend with Harrison (West Lafayette) seniors Eric Nielsen and Chad Zarnow (13-6, 5-0) on Friday.
Joe Hammond and Nick Laconi of Zionsville will begin their state title defense on Saturday morning in the semifinals after drawing a quarterfinal bye. Hammond and Laconi are 13-2 this season a perfect 6-0 this postseason.
