Cypress (Texas) Creek High School is led by a talented senior class of big men who have pushed their competition around this season.
The 5-0 Cougars are led by solid offensive linemen Cameron Fleming (6-foot-6, 280-pounds) and Archie Muniz (6-foot-5, 255-pounds), and defensive tackle Will Hampton (6-foot-6, 280-pounds). Fleming is verbally committed to TCU, while Muniz and Hampton are committed to Utah and Northwestern, respectively.
Benefitting from the large orders of pancake blocks are juniors quarterback Chuckie Keeton and running back Jermichael Selders.
The 6-foot-2 Keeton is a dual-threat quarterback with a tremendous football IQ. The honor roll student has passed for over 600 yards and rushed for over 300 yards while scoring nine touchdowns.
“I knew we would have a great season because of all the work we put in during the summer,” Keeton said. “We really want a district championship and a state championship run.” Schools have started taking notice of Keeton, who is hearing from the likes of SMU, Rice, Syracuse and Boise State.
“I’m not surprised too much about hearing from schools already,” he said. “My brother was recruited out of high school and he just tells me that if you keep winning your name will circulate. As far as schools I’d like to hear from, that would be Texas, Texas Tech, Cal and UCLA.”
Keeton will be hitting the camp and combine circuit after the season, where he looks to refine his craft.
“I’m going to be working on staying in the pocket longer and keeping my eyes downfield,” he said. “I’m going to work on not being so quick to run.”
Selders has rushed for 723 yards and 11 scores this season, following up a solid sophomore season. The effervescent back is hearing from the likes of Arkansas, Oklahoma, Houston and LSU. “I’ve been dreaming of this since I was eight-years-old,” he laughs.
“I’m having a good season and I feel like my vision is my strength. I’m going to be working on my cuts and acceleration this offseason. As far as schools go, I9 9m looking very hard into the academic program and the facilities.”
