Holy Cross Celebrates All A Championship - Prepares to Dig Pink

Greater Louisville, KY

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

The Cougars brought home the championship from the All A State volleyball tournament at Eastern Kentucky University last month. This is the first appearance in any state volleyball tournament for Holy Cross since 1987. Currently, Holy Cross lead the 6th Region in wins with a record of 16-8.

This Thursday, September, 30, the Cougars will host Owensboro Catholic for the "Dig Pink" game. Each team has agreed to work to raise $3,000.00 for the Dig Pink Foundation for Breast Cancer Awareness and Cancer Research. The Dig Pink Foundation uses the sport of volleyball to fight breast cancer. In honor of Breast Cancer awareness month in October, colleges and High schools all over the country are holding similar matches.

The Cougars are selling pink ribbon pins and raffling a number of items, such as a UofL basket, a baby basket and corn hole boards to raise money for the cause. At each home game, a cake made by head coach Matt Thomerson's mother has been raffled. Jordan Rickert has designed a t-shirt that includes the mascot of each school and the date of the match. Shirts will be sold at the game. In addition, donors can contribute through the web site at the Dig Pink foundation: https://www.side-out.org/application/teams/team_page/1226.

Should the NFHS govern every state as it pertains to high school athletics? Or should each state be managed by their own governing body?
