Remember When? Jenks vs. Union-Backyard Bowl-September 7th, 2007 Jenks and Union hooked up for another chapter of the Backyard Bowl at Chapman Field. With NFL films cameras rolling they put on one of the best games of the year. A back and forth battle of two giants and it came down to a field goal in overtime. Even then people were saying there can only be two teams in the state finals and it should be these two. Ron Lancaster Returns to the Football Field After a short retirement, Ron Lancaster assembled a coaching staff rivaled by none and took over the Broken Arrow football program. The impact was immediate as workouts got tougher and expectations went through the roof. The attitudes have changed, now the quest begins for the elusive gold ball. Hello World, I'm Shawn Jackson Many people knew there was a young man at McLain that was receiving some early praise, but what most didn't know was the running back was going to play quarterback and be one of the toughest guys to get a handle on all year. Week one versus Central Jackson rushes for 166 yards, four touchdowns and two two-point conversions. He completed 8-of-11 passing for 190 yards and two touchdowns. If that doesn't impress you then let's talk defense, seven tackles and an interception for a touchdown, now that's the stuff of legends. Headliners Shane Devers from Sand Springs became known for his ability to catch the ball in traffic and run for tough yards after the catch. Denny Clement from Cascia Hall scored six touchdowns in three games for the Commandos and would go on to be the teams leading rusher with 1,358 yards on the season and a perfect 15-0 record. East Central got off to a great start with their first two wins over 6A opponents. Watch to Watch Here's the short list of underclassmen that you'll be reading about next season. Some have already made their presence felt, but some are still waiting their turn. Get ready boys, you're next! QB-Cale Fulps-Broken Arrow-An injury cut his season short, but the young gun slinger will be back for 08 ready to go. RB-Jeremy Smith-Union-When it's all said and done, Smith may be the best running back to ever come out of Union. WR-Justin Skillens-Booker T. Washington-Great hands and tremendous speed, Skillens is dangerous on special teams as well. OL-Jake Alexander-Jenks-Already a two year starter, Alexander is one of the more talented young linemen in 6A. OL-Bob Graham-Jenks-This 6-foot-5, 270 lb offensive lineman has the tools to step in and add his name to a long list of great lineman from Jenks. QB/LB-Shawn Jackson-McLain-Just read the first part of this story. All the tools and want to will take this guy far. RB/DB-Ronnell Lewis-Dewar-At 6-foot-3 this kid is a huge running back and a bigger defensive back. He may be the next blue chipper to come from 8-man. RB-Marco Nelson-Glenpool-The next back from Running Back High. Nelson is elusive and tough to bring down. DB/RB-Cody Blake-Henryetta-Nicknamed lightning, Blake has proven to be the Knights answer when searching for speed. DB/WR-Krispin Crawford-Beggs-Looking for someone to go up and get the ball, this is your guy. Crawford is very athletic and plays hard. DT-Austin Booth-Webster-Can play both ways, Booth is a big body that can move people when necessary. At 6-foot-5, 275 lbs he has the frame to play college ball. RB/LB-Matt Mitchell-Stilwell-A determined football player who gets better with every carry. QB/S-Jordan Barrett-Oologah-At 6-foot-3, 200 lbs Barrett has the frame for college ball. He also loves to hit which makes him one of the better safeties. LB-Eric Howell-Muskogee-Howell was the leading tackler for the Roughers this season and looks to continue that for his senior year. Team of the Year Cascia Hall Commandos 15-0 Head coach Joe Median is all about results on the field not the awards that come with it. But we felt it necessary to point out the job that he and his coaching staff has done. Congratulations to all of the players, coaches, trainers and support staff for the state championship and the perfect season.
