Central Indiana, IN

Monday, April 13, 2009

The Fishers Tigers baseball team is "Going Green" during their home games the next two weeks to celebrate Earth Day. On Thursday, April 16, when the Tigers will play host to Hamilton County rival Noblesville at 5 p.m., special recycling containers will be available for spectators to drop off plastic bottles. The CeCe Orris and Fishers Baseball Dugout Club will remove the containers after each of the next three home games and take the items to be recycled. The recycling effort will also take place on Youth Night against Southeastern on Monday, April 20, at 5 p.m. and on Tiger Sponsor Night versus Westfield on Thursday, April 23. In addition to helping the environment, the Tigers will also host their annual Reading Buddy Party on Friday, April 17. The Fishers baseball team will serve as reading buddies to several second graders from Sand Creek Elementary School. Throughout the year, the players has spent 30 minutes each week reading to the second-grade class or working one-on-one with individual students. The program has been conducted for three years with the party evolving into a gathering at the varsity baseball field where players teach the second graders about baseball, school and the importance of academics.
