Kapaun-Carroll Trifecta

Newman University will host a day of athletic events featuring teams from Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School and Bishop Carroll Catholic High School on Friday, April 17. The event will take place on the Newman campus and will include Kapaun-Carroll match-ups in baseball, softball and girls soccer. The event is designed to allow both high schools to stage multiple sporting events at one location. Both Kapaun Mt. Carmel and Bishop Carroll athletic facilities are located in various parts of the city, making it impossible for students, parents and other fans to attend more than one sporting event at the same time. This is the second year Newman has served as the location for the games. "We're happy to be able to again host this event for the two Catholic high schools in Wichita," said Newman Athletics Director Vic Trilli. "This is a great opportunity for the teams and fans, and we're looking forward to an exciting day of athletics from these talented players." Gates will open at 3 p.m., and games begin at 4 p.m. Kapaun and Bishop Carroll students as well as Newman faculty and students will be admitted free with an I.D. Admission for others is $5 adults, $3 students. In addition to the games, attendees can enjoy tailgating from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. with meals from the Presto Convenience Stores mobile store and grill that will be parked in the lot between the playing fields. Presto and Vype Magazine will offer a meal of a Nathan's Famous hot dog, chips and a soft drink. All proceeds will be donated to the Kapaun and Bishop Carroll booster clubs. Newman University will also give away several surprise gifts to attendees. The Newman University campus is located south of US 400 (Kellogg) between the West Street and Edwards/K-42 exits at 3100 McCormick. McCarthy Baseball Field (MC), the Softball Diamond (SF) and the Wilcox Soccer Fields (WS) are located south of McCormick on Sheridan Street.
