Harper to Join Hopper in Houston

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Broken Arrow senior offensive lineman Rowdy Harper will be leading the way for tailback Steven Hopper in college as well. Harper, the son of Berryhill head coach Pat Harper, gave his verbal commitment to the Houston Cougars Sunday evening. Harper a 6-6, 250 lbs offensive tackle for the Tigers also is the deep snapper for kicks. Harper also received interest from Colorado State and UNLV.

Harper gave his commitment a day after the Cougars upset of No. 5 Oklahoma State 45-35 at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Saturday. His commitment makes him the second Broken Arrow Tiger to verbally commit after runningback Steven Hopper did so during the summer. Broken Arrow defensive coordinator Steve Spavital's sons Zac and Jake (both former Union football players) are on the Houston staff. Zac Spavital is the Cornerbacks coach while Jake is an offensive graduate assistant on head coach Kevin Sumlin's coaching staff.
