Steven George's father thinks his son would have been excited about the new Wakefield Wolverines Field House, dedicated in his honor on March 12. "He would have loved it," George said. Steven Jr. was coming home from a regional basketball championship in March 2006 when the car in which he was riding with three friends crashed. All four boys were killed. Shortly after the accident, his father started thinking of ways to remember him and spearheaded an effort to build a baseball field house. The failing economy hindered efforts to raise money to complete the structure, but it was finally dedicated in time for the start of the 2009 baseball season. Two fundraisers are already scheduled to raise money for the balance: a silent auction at Wakefield TPC on March 28 and a golf outing at Hasentree in Raleigh.
