Editor's Note: Dallas Christian's Chris Adcock is considered one of the state's highest rated offensive line recruits. He will provide an ongoing inside look at recruiting on VYPE.com/DFW: By Chris Adcock This weekend I took a trip to the Chicago area to make a Junior Day visit. After my parents and I planned the trip, I decided to call up another school in the area: Notre Dame. I got a hold of their football office and set up a time to visit on the Friday before the junior day at Northwestern. I didn't know what would happen on my self-invited visit, but hopefully I get to meet a coach and drop my film off. Before I tell about how my visits went I'll share a little wisdom I picked up in transit to Notre Dame. NOTE TO SELF: Check the time zone the school is in before you leave. It's easier to leave on time than find out you are in a different time zone when your parents get a speeding ticket. As it turned out my recruiting coach at Notre Dame was familiar with my school and head coach. (He was also very understanding about the time zone issue) The visit went well, I got a great tour from the secretary who attended Notre Dame so it was very insightful. I also met my recruiting coach who was very nice and personable. The next day I attended the Northwestern Junior Day. It went good as well. I got a feel for the campus and met my recruiting coach and position coach. Morale of the story: If you are going to make a long distance trip, consider visiting other schools in the area. If it's a school you might be interested in, contact them. Even if they aren't currently recruiting you, the worst they can say is no. Even if they aren't interested they will rarely refuse a visit. It's amazing how people will respond if you only ask. I'm loaded down this week with pre-spring break work, and it's one of those weeks that you have to hunker down and get through it. My next visit is to Arizona for a spring practice on Wednesday. I've got all my make-up work for school lined up and hopefully I make a good impression on Arizona and meet some of the coaches I've been e-mailing.
