Spring (Texas) Westfield High School has been an area power since the arrival of coach Corby Meekins and 2009 seems to be no different.
The Mustangs are led by Kansas-commit Jacoby Walker at quarterback for the third season, and junior defensive tackle Desmond Jackson is anchoring this year’s stingy Westfield defense.
The 6-foot-1 defender will draw double-teams all season, as well as offers from the likes of major Division I programs.
“I have offers from Texas A&M, Stanford and Houston sitting right here,” Meekins said. “That’s all I know about. I think that some other schools have offered him directly.”
Oklahoma has also seemingly offered Jackson, who has started since his sophomore season.
“Teams like everything about him,” Meekins said. “He’s a good football player and a good student. He’s very strong and physical at the defensive line position, which is coveted in college football.”
Also drawing interest off of Meekins’ defense is Aaron Harris, who is a hybrid defensive end/outside linebacker.
“Coaches are just wantin g to see early tape on Aaron,” he said. “He’s what every coach wants now on defense, the guy who can put his hand on the ground at defensive end and can bump back and stand up in a 3-4 defense. His is also a very good student.” .
