Monday, February 23, 2009

This weekend's 71st annual IHSAA Individual Wrestling State Finals spanned two exciting nights at Conseco Fieldhouse and ended with 14 state champions crowned. On both night's two lucky fans also were awarded a grand prize, selected as VYPE High School Sports Magazine's promotional giveaway winners. On Friday night, Nappanee's Bruce Sanders won VYPE's first giveaway, an autographed football signed by Indianapolis Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney. Prior the tournament's title match round on Saturday night, Caleb Sprunger of South Adams High School took home an autographed poster of 2004 U.S. Olympic Champion Cael Sanderson. The free gifts were provided by VYPE HSSM and Man Cave Collectibles.com. Chris Kaufman, the IHSAA communication director, presented Sanders, a Northwood High School graduate, with his award. Sprunger, 15, who is active in football, wrestling and baseball, received his award from IHSAA's 2006 Official of the Year, Tom Clark. Clark, 50, served as a wrestling official during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. With 25 years of officiating experience, Clark, an Ohio native, has presided over six IHSAA state finals in his career and has officiated every wrestling World Championship and Olympic Trial event since 1992. Fans in attendance during the IHSAA state finals were instructed to text "VYPE" to 71813 both night to be eligible to win. An advertisement for VYPE's giveaway was also highlighted in the IHSAA's event program. VYPE and Man Cave Collectibles.com also intend to give one lucky fan an opportunity to win another autographed Cael Sanderson poster at this weekend's IHSAA Team Wrestling State Finals. The event is at Center Grove High School and is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
