Keeping it in the family. That's exactly what the DeShazer family has done. It started a generation ago, when Daniel DeShazer's father won the state wrestling championships, not once, but twice. The tradition continued with Daniel's older brother, who was crowned state champion all four years in high school. Daniel followed right into the family business, as he too was king of the mat just as a freshman. He even helped the Height's Falcons end the Bishop Carroll's Golden Eagle 125 match winning streak. But he didn't do it alone. His younger cousin Uylesses was right in the middle. "They've been wrestling since they were out of the womb, probably since they were in the womb really," Mike Church, Heights High wrestling coach said. Imagine family reunions with plenty of food, fellowship and competitiveness. "Head to head you see trash talk and all that," Uylesses, Heights wrestler said. "He beats me, most of the time. I've tried to beat him, I've got him a couple of times." The two have had plenty of time to practice and learn each other's strengths and weaknesses. "I've been wrestling since I was four, we probably both started wrestling at the same time," Daniel, Heights wrestler, said. "He was probably three." The cousins hope their competitiveness and confidence will be the key to add their names to the list of Heights champions, and in their own family.
