Denton Ryan's Scotty Young is among the highest-rated quarterbacks in Texas for the Class of 2010. He nearly broke the single-season touchdown record of Graham Harrell and now there's a good chance Young will succeed Harrell one day as a Texas Tech quarterback in going from being a Ryan Raider to a Red Raider. "Right now I'm pretty high on Texas Tech," Young told theoldcoach.com. "They were really the first school to start talking to me. They would probably be my top team right now." Young still plans to take more time before making a decision. Kansas, Nebraska, SMU, Baylor and Texas A&M also have shown strong interest. Oklahoma assistant Josh Heupel recruits North Texas and he's also shown some early interest in the Sooners making an offer. Young (6-3, 185) put up monster numbers for Ryan last season. He passed for 4,495 yards and 65 touchdowns. Those kinds of stats certainly caught the attention of plenty of schools With Texas already getting a commitment from Graham's Colt McCoy Last season the 6-foot-3, 185-pound gunslinger threw the ball up and down the field for 4,495 yards and 65 touchdowns. Harrell holds the single-season state record with 67 touchdown passes at Ennis in 2003. Despite the clear-cut leader, Young plans to take his time with a decision. He says he plans to keep an open mind as more and more schools are starting to contact him. "I'm going to wait it out for a while. I've been starting to talk to more schools so I'm just going to see what happens pretty much," Young said. As for his own season, the Denton Ryan offense has to replace several key players. So being a better leader is a goal for a quarterback who has to set goals on more than just stats after the amount he put up last year. "We lost a lot of guys on the offensive side of the ball so I'm just going to try and be a better leader this year. I also want to try and turnover the ball less," Young said. Quarterbacks often are among the first to commit because schools are so limited in the number each can offer depending on roster depth. Texas already has a commitment from Graham's Case McCoy. Killeen Shoemaker's Jameill Showers has committed to Texas A&M but both the Aggies and Longhorns have said they could take two quarterbacks for 2010.
