The governing body of Texas public high school sports and extracurricular activities is leaving. University Interscholastic League executive director Dr. Bill Farney is retiring after 14 years in the position. Farney's tenure as included the overseeing the implementation of a statewide steroid testing program. Under Farney, the UIL also added UIL-sanctioned sports, including boys and girls soccer, softball, team tennis and boys and girls wrestling. Farney also established officials associations for soccer and volleyball, developed and administered reclassification and realignment for public schools and conducted goal-setting seminars for school districts. Farney initiated the Coaches and Officials Positive Expectations program.
