Needless to say, basketball has taken off in Texas -- specifically in North Texas. Chris Bosh. Deron Williams. C.J. Miles. Brittany Raven. The list goes on and on. So who's next from the area to be a college standout, and maybe one day an NBA or WBNA player? Here's a look at the VYPE Hot 20 Basketball Players in the area, ranked by the price of admission, girl or boy, if you're headed out to a game this winter: Today's pick is: 12. GJ Vilarino, McKinney Vilarino made headlines when Kentucky coach Billy Gillespie got a commitment out of him as a sophomore at McKinney. The 6-0 point guard shows flashes of great potential, but still needs to work on being a consistent player. Previous picks were: 20. Tony McGilveary, North Crowley He is the leader of the North Crowley team now that Willie Warren has moved on after last year's 5A state championship. The 6-5 McGilveary can put up double-double numbers. Even with Warren controlling the team last year, McGilveary averaged 10 points and seven rebounds per game. 19. Keena Mays, Mansfield Timberview Mays is the main reason why Timberview is expected to compete for a state title this year. She averaged 12 points and six rebounds per game last year. 18. Kelsi Baker, Mesquite Horn The 6-0 junior is a terrific athlete who is averaging 18 points and seven rebounds per game this season. Baker also stars in track in the discus and shot put. 17. Javarez Willis, Pinkston The 5-11 point guard who is being recruited by Louisiana-Monroe, Houston and South Alabama. Willis is fast in the open court and can also take over a game from behind the 3-point arc. He is also a good on-ball defender. 16. Marshall Henderson, Hurst L.D. Bell The 6-1 shooting guard, who has signed with Utah, can light it up. He is averaging 26.5 points per game this season. Henderson is a smart player who also averages six rebounds and six assists per game. 15. Cameron Miles, Skyline The younger borther of C.J. Miles of the Utah Jazz has signed with San Diego. The 6-1 point guard is at his best in the open floor. He is a fast, speedy guard who can beat defenses down the floor. He also can get to the rim and finish strong. He's a great floor leader. 14. Keuna Flax, Haltom The senior 5-9 guard can just flat out shoot the rock. She is averaging 23 points per game and making close to two 3-pointers a game. She has committed to Oklahoma State. 13. Peyton Adamson, Rockwall The 5-7 junior guard is a 3-point shooting machine. She had 139 of them last year, second most in the nation. Adamson is averaging 26 points per game this year while making 3.4 3-pointers per game.
