Athlete of the Week: Lonoke's Asiah Scribner

Tuesday, January 6, 2009

Asiah Scribner helped Lonoke to the First Security Bank/Gilliam Farms Beebe Holiday tournament title last week. For her efforts the 6-foot-1 junior center earns VYPE Central Arkansas Player of the Week honors for the week of Dec. 29 through Dec. 3. Scribner played her best in a 53-44 finals win against Star City, who entered the game 14-0. Scribner, a three-year starter, poured in 20 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Lonoke trailed by eight at halftime but Scriber's 11 third-quarter points helped the Lady Jackrabbits take control of the game. "She really carried us in the final game," Lonoke coach Nathan Morris said. "She was out of the game with foul trouble in the second quarter, but she really imposed her will in the third quarter." Scribner, who averages 16.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game, scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebound in a 48-37 seminal win against Conway. She scored 16 points in a 64-45 win against rival Carlisle in the opening round. Arkansas-Little Rock, and Oral Roberts offered Scribner scholarships. She's also receiving interest from Arkansas, Arkansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma and Southern Alabama. Lonoke (10-3) plays at Stuttgart tonight.
