It's good to be back in the game, so to speak. The past 11 years of my 25 years on the Indianapolis-area sports scene was spent editing copy for The Indianapolis Star. Guess you could say I was on the bench - away from the writing end of things. Well, no more. Writing my book, "Have Laptop, Did Travel,'' a newspaper journalist's memoirs on sports' grandest stage - released last month - sort of whet my appetite to start writing again on a regular basis. So let's get 'er going, sports fans. I've always been involved in high school sports in one way or another during my 45 years in the newspaper business. I even spent 11 years as high schools coordinator at The Indianapolis News (8 years) and The Indianapolis Star. My career also includes covering college football and basketball, the National Basketball Association Indiana Pacers (1984-86) and several local and national golf events. I guess you could say mine is one of those been-there-and-done-that stories. But high school sports have always been a passion of mine. I'm looking forward to blogging twice a week for VYPE High School Sports Magazine's Web site, the only source you need for high school sports when you want more than just the score. I'm anxious to share my thoughts on various subjects pertaining to high school sports, and I'll try and answer any questions you can pass, shoot, kick, putt, bat, swing, throw, run, hurdle, vault, jump or dive past me. I plan to be at some sporting events from time to time. And on occasion, I'll talk to athletes and coaches and provide an insight to share and hopefully discuss with you, the reader. Basically, my intent is to discuss any thoughts or opinions you may want to discuss. (Guys, don't ask me to explain women, though, in case you are seeking advice to help with your girlfriends, well, you really ARE on your own. I mean, I don't know any guys who really have a clue.) You may not always agree with my assessments or opinions, but you can count on receiving straight talk and honest feedback - all of which hopefully will lead to some lively discussions. So, if you have a question that needs an answer, save it for here, the Web site every athlete, coach and parent should check daily for the latest news and features in high school sports. I'll do my best to articulate the various subjects and conversations. In closing: Ever wonder about historic moments or breathtaking finishes you've only heard about but would like to know more about? I'll even look back on occasion and share a Hoosier Moment. You see, I've seen my share of them. Some things remain quite vivid to me and, oh yes, I love to reminisce. Remember: My View/Your View can only be as good as you, the reader, help make it. Hey, I'm ready. Are you ready? Let's have some fun. Step up to the line and fire away! Make sure to leave a comment! Thanks for reading, and thanks for making VYPE HSSM part of your month and VYPE.com/centralindiana part of your day.
