Athletes of the week

St. Paul, MN

Tuesday, December 16, 2008

Mike Falvey, St. Paul Academy, hockey Prior to last week, senior Mike Falvey had only one goal on his stat sheet. Something must have come over him because he racked up six goals and two assists in two games for the St. Paul Academy (3-1-1) boys hockey team, including four straight goals in a 6-2 win over Chisago Lakes on Saturday. Against the Shattuck-St. Mary's Midget AAA team Wednesday, he had two goals and two assists in the third period alone. Erin Green, White Bear Lake, hockey Junior center Erin Green turned the tables on Blaine Thursday, leading the Bears (6-3) to a come-back 4-3 victory from a 3-0 deficit. She scored two goals, the tying goal and the winner, and added the Bear's first assist of the game. Green has three goals and three assists in her past three games. Lizzi Naumann, Totino-Grace, basketball The Eagles have soared to their best start in the girls basketball program's history with a 6-0 record. The key ingredient behind that hot start appears to be senior Lizzi Naumann, who scored 24 points and 18 rebounds in a 54-53 win over Maple Grove on Saturday. Leading her team to three wins on the week, Naumann was 21 of 26 from the free-throw line. Jake Begin, Anoka, wrestling Senior Anoka wrestler Jake Begin may not be perfect, but he sure was last week. The senior 160-pounder went 5-0, winning two matches Friday by fall in the Anoka Duals. He won three more matches to lead Anoka to the St. Francis Invite championship and place him at No. 1 in his weight class.
