Top-ranked Giants win Marion County title

Through the first month of the girls' basketball season, the Ben Davis Giants have been the best in Class 4A. This past weekend, the top-ranked Giants proved to be the best in Marion County, winning their record eighth tournament championship after defeating Perry Meridian 56-34. The victory pushed Ben Davis' record to a flawless 9-0. The Giants finished the annual tournament a perfect 4-0 behind a stingy defense. Averaging 33.0 surrendered per game, Ben Davis limited first-round opponent Beech Grove to 14 points, quarterfinal matchup North Cental to 18 and semifinal foe Decatur Central to 44. Through that same span, Ben Davis never scored less than 50 points, including 60 against Decatur Central, who pushed the Giants to the brink in the title game a year ago. In this year's championship, sophomore Bria Goss led the Giants in scoring with 19 points. Junior Dee Dee Williams, a Purdue University commit, followed with 13, and senior Alex Bentley, a Penn State recruit, added 11 to complete the Giants' tournament sweep.
