Travelling around the fourth largest metropolitan in the country can be difficult. For high school sports fans, just look for the high tower lights and every 10 miles you can find a campus with some sort of college athlete roaming the halls. In a recent jaunt around the Houston, VYPE has uncovered the scoop from the suburbs to the inner city. North Houston At College Park in The Woodlands, girls' basketball is alive and kicking. Alongside Monique Smalls, the Cavaliers are led by recent Yale University commit Allie Messimer in the post and junior Nicole Morgan, who committed to Texas A&M last season for softball. The Woodlands defense lineman Loren Baker has been offered by Army after a solid season for the Highlands. Klein defensive back Tyler Boss committed to Louisiana Tech for baseball, which wipes him off the board as a football recruit, and two huge offensive linemen at Klein Collins are emerging in Garrett Greenlea and Scott Whitmore. Both sophomores are 6-foot-6 and started on the varsity. Northwest Houston A pair of younger brothers are starting to shine at Cy-Ridge. Nicholas Shepard, younger brother of the city's top recruit, will be a force in years to come for the Rams. Darwin Whitaker is the younger brother of Keenan Flax, who has committed to Houston for football. Whitaker stands 6-foot-6, 240-pounds at defensive end. Also at Cy-Ridge, it appears that linebacker Princeton Jackson will be verbally committing to Iowas State days to come to fill their linebacker spot for this class. West Houston The Katy Tigers try and make it six football state championships over the next few weeks. After a 1-2 start, the Tigers are in the state semifinals with the chance to win state at Reliant Stadium on December 20th. Fort Bend Hightower's football team is also in the state semifinals and the Hurricane basketball team is off of suspension and ready to get playing. They won their first tournament before losing to Bellaire at home.
