Fourth-ranked Stillwater made its pitch for the top Class AA ranking with a 2-1 victory over current No. 1 Edina on Tuesday at the St. Croix Arena. Lisa Tuuri got the Ponies on the board on a power play goal at 15:58 of the opening period on assists from fellow forwards Kristina King and Lauren Charpentier and held the 1-0 lead through much of the second period. Edina broke even on forward Christie Brauer's strike at 11:00 of the middle stanza on assists from Corinne Buie and Ellie Gleason. The score remained tied 1-1 until the 8:35 mark of the final frame as Charpentier tallied the would-be winning score off assists from King and forward Callie Dahl. Stillwater held onto the 2-1 advantage until the final horn as goaltender Marah Sobczak made 30 saves. Hornets netminder Cara Gulbronson made 18 saves The Ponies have won four straight games since a season-opening defeat at Hill-Murray; the loss was Edina's second in a row — the Hornets lost 5-0 to Blake — and have now dropped to 2-2-1 on the year.
