Professional athletes make good money. Some of them make really good money. A few make sick amounts of money. High school athletes? Well, not so much. Still, pro athletes and high school athletes do share other similarities. They work hard. They like to win. In many cases, they like souped-up rides. For most people, not just athletes, vehicles are more than a means of transportation. They are a reflection of an individual's personality. They can say a lot about who you are and what you like. And everyone likes to have things customized to fit their tastes and desires. Obviously, professional athletes are afforded the means to do this on a grand scale. And when many of the area's professional athletes want to trick out their vehicle, they turn to a local man - James Reeves. Reeves, better known to friends and customers as JR, has been customizing automobiles for 29 years. He started simply enough, installing radios and applying pinstripes for local car dealers. Today, his client list includes names like Jason Terry, Emmitt Smith, and Deron Williams, NBA standout and former player at The Colony High School. And that's just scratching the surface. From football to basketball, baseball and hockey and even golf, Reeves' shop, JR's Custom Auto, has worked with athletes locally and around the country. His work has spoken for itself, hence the number of repeat customers, as well as pros who seek out JR for their customizations. In fact, it has reached the point where some athletes will simply drop off a vehicle and tell JR how much they want to spend on it. They leave it to JR and his staff to decide what to do with the ride. While doing work for professionals is exciting, JR feels he now has a stigma to overcome. "We need people to understand that you don't have to spend $20,000 to get in the store," he said. "We still do the simple installs, just like Best Buy or Car Toys or any of those guys." The difference, though, is that JR's staff is among the best in the business. After all, do you think Troy Aikman would trust his car with just anyone? So even if you don't have a pro contract, you can still get the same treatment that the pros do. And, if you let JR work on your ride, he might even add your jersey to the walls of his shop, along with the dozens of others that satisfied pro athletes have given him. -
