It seems that the sporting goods industry has as many advances as the computer industry these days. Not a week goes by that the newest idea comes out and hits press releases everywhere. Sometimes it’s in the form of apparel. Sometimes shoes. Sometimes accessories and training equipment. Always with the mindset of bettering the athlete’s abilities when utilizing these new technologies and products. Many companies continue to excel at increasing the experience for players and coaches of all sports. These include Pearl Izumi™, ASICS™, Adidas™, New Balance™, VizualEdge™, Greenyarn™, Visiball™, Cutters™, Origo™, MIO™, Tech4O™, and many others. From basketball to football to wrestling to swimming to baseball to softball to tennis and beyond, these companies have you in mind.

HEAD GAMES

VizualEdge™ Focus Training – When I first stumbled upon this product, I came in a little skeptical, but after using it, I am fully amazed. They call it “weight-lifting for your eyes” and what it accomplishes is something that hasn’t been fully realized in the past. There are a number of evaluations and exercises using the provided 3D glasses and program that help you gain better focus and quicker reaction time. You may select a number of different sports, where VizualEdge will tailor-make a program for you to use. One certain exercise is on convergence and divergence of your focal area. In this exercise, you are required to locate a 3D diamond shape on top of two squares as they begin to separate the red from the blue. Trust me, it is extremely difficult, but I found that after a few repetitions of this exercise, my score was already improving. This is something that can help where few others can. It’s about time for something like this to hit the market! You can check out
http://www.vizualedge.com for more information.

UNDERWEAR

SMART Underwear by Greenyarn™ – I know what you’re thinking…this guy isn’t actually going to talk about underwear is he? Well the answer is yes. Trust me, your mother will appreciate it. This ECO-Fabric underwear contains nano-particles of bamboo charcoal that makes it antibacterial, deodorizing, absorbing, and static free. They are fully washable and do not lose their benefits with washing. The benefits come from the bamboo charcoal particles and not from added chemicals. Now, you’ve heard it all. To find out more about Greenyarn™, log on to http://www.greenyarn.com.

ARMED AND DANGEROUS

Tech4O™ TraiLeader™ Watch – This watch is the ultimate outdoor adventure companion, combining not only speed and distance measurement but also tracking how high you’ve climbed and what kind of weather is heading your way with an altimeter, barometer, compass and thermometer. Its built-in accelerometer technology is a highly accurate, yet easy to use tool for use in measuring personal speed and distance. Other features include a calorie and step counter, as well as pace, time, date, stopwatch and alarm features. Read more about the TraiLeader at http://www.tech4o.com.
HANDY MAN

GreatCatch™ by Cutters™ - Introducing GreatCatch™, the first catching trainer to focus on the fingertips. Palms and heels of the hands cause bobbles and drops, so GreatCatch takes them completely off the ball, literally forcing the fingertips to do the work. The result is softer, more reliable hands, and fewer bobbles and drops. Put GreatCatch on and you’re ready for drills and scrimmages. Take GreatCatch off and you’ll be amazed how quickly muscle memory takes over. That’s the material from the company…let me give it to you straight. Simple, yet extremely valuable. This is a tremendous teaching tool that every receiver and coach should have in their training regimen. Check it out at http://www.cuttersgloves.com.

A STEP AHEAD

Adidas Barricade 5 – The Barricade 5 is made specifically for tennis players, and you can tell that they have paid attention to their needs. With superior cushioning, support, and adiTUFF™ durability and grip, this tennis shoe is definitely tough to beat. These will help your game by increasing stability and performance. Find the Barricade 5 at your local tennis or sporting goods store and also online at
http://www.adidas.com.

Pearl Izumi Syncro Pace III – This shoe is one of the most versatile running shoes on the market. The Syncro Pace has sufficient motion-control mechanisms to combat mild pronation, it’s light and flexible enough to be a fast-paced trainer, and it has plenty of soft cushioning in both the midsole and the footbed for longer runs. This is a great example of what technology can do to help performance. Get more information at http://www.pearlizumi.com.

ASICS® Gel Nimbus® - The Nimbus® is the flagship running shoe in ASICS cushioning category, and I must say they are one of the most comfortable shoes that I have ever worn. They feature a proprietary asymmetrical lacing design along with Solyte® material, provides a plush road feel. This is a great that running shoe that performs extremely well. Find them at your local running store or at http://www.asics.com.

New Balance Downforce 840 – The Downforce 840 caters to athletes looking to increase their speed, explosiveness, and control. Designed for agility and power training, 840 cradles the foot using New Balance LockDown Liner™ technology, an adjustable liner that is integrated into the lacing system to provide a custom fit and securely hold the foot in place. An outstanding shoe for your training needs. Highly recommended. Check out more about the Downforce 840 at http://www.newbalance.com.
