Apple Valley upset in State opener

It was one and done for the top-seeded and ranked Apple Valley boys soccer team in the opening round of the Class AA State Tournament as St. Louis Park defeated the Eagles 1-0 in Hopkins on Friday night. The Orioles' Andrew Johnson scored the game's lone goal in the second half to propel his club into a state semifinal matchup with Bloomington Jefferson, a 1-0 victor over Stillwater. Osseo and Coon Rapids will fill the opposite semifinal bracket, joining the Orioles and the Jaguars in the Metrodome on Oct. 27. The State final will be played Oct. 30.
