The Rockets have abundant standouts, but don’t overlook the talent at Mercy and Sacred Heart.
Assumption is again blessed with a talented group of seniors. Coach Ron Kordes comments on his players’ strengths.
-Emily Hayden - Senior middle blocker who has committed to the University of Cincinnati. "Emily's a four-year varsity player...anchors the middle and is a great blocker...also hits a very good slide ball."
-Whitney Craven - Senior left-side hitter who has committed to Ole Miss. "Whitney was hurt most of last year, but came on at State. Great serving and offensive skills...has a great wrist and can hit a lot of different shots.”
-Sarah Rogers - Senior libero who has committed to Western Kentucky. "Sarah's a co-captain along with Craven...one of the top passers in the area...anchors our serve-receive and is a fine server and team leader.”
-Stephanie Klefot - Senior right-side who has committed to UK. "Stephanie's going to UK as a libero or defensive specialist, but she's athletic enough to do things at the net...solid in her passing and defense...good hops and ball-control.”
Mercy coach Todd Garvey highlights five of his stalwarts.
-Casey Garvey - Senior setter who's going to Samford. She's also Todd's little sister. "Casey is a third-year starter who sees the court well and is smart and accurate with her sets. She runs the offense very well and has been around volleyball her whole life, making her like a coach on the floor.”
-Kelsey Anderson - Senior outside hitter who's committed to the University of Alabama. "Kelsey's a great jump-server and one of our top hitters. She's started on and off for three years having battled through knee injuries. Has no weaknesses in her game...strong passing, serving and hitting."
-Paige Wessel - Senior middle blocker who's going to Western Kentucky. "Paige is a three-year starter who was second on the team in kills and first in blocks last year. She's an explosive jumper, good at seeing the block and hitting around it.
-Caitlin Welch - Junior libero and is committed to the University of Louisville. "Caitlin is real steady, composed, phenomenal in the back row. She could end up being one of the best defensive specialists to come out of Louisville.
-Madison Hardy - Junior outside hitter who is getting lots of offers. "Madison provides energy...when she's on we feed off her energy. She has no weaknesses...strong defensive player...good jump-serve.
Sacred Heart coach Eric Garvey (Todd's brother) praises four members of his standout junior class.
-Emily Juhl - 5'9'' Junior, outside hitter. “As one of the top ranked juniors in the nation, Emily jumps high and swings hard. Emily plays both front & back row and is considered by many as the top all around player in the state. She is a dominant player who has the capability of taking over a match when she’s at her best. Emily is being recruited by numerous colleges and is still early in the process of narrowing down her choices.”
-Kelsey Dunaway - 5'10 junior outside hitter. “Kelsey has an uncanny ability to terminate any set. She has an arsenal of shots from the outside and is surely one of the most efficient hitters in the state. After primarily serving as a right side blocker last season, Kelsey has taken a role this year of providing a constant offensive presence. Kelsey, too, is being heavily recruited.”
-Ashley Potts - 5'4'' junior defensive specialist. “Ashley is a very athletic and skilled defensive player who paces the strength of our team, which is ball control. Her consistency continues to improve as she learns to play within our team's defensive structure. Ashley has committed to play at Western Kentucky University.”
-Caitlin Dotson - 5'8 junior setter. “Caitlin (who goes by "Dot") is a very smart, consistent, athletic setter who knows how to run a team. Dot is a natural leader who serves great as a setter. She continues to improve the rest of her game with her defense and blocking. She is also a great dancer and quite the comedian! Caitlin is being recruited and looking at several colleges at this point.”
