Girls to Watch
Coriann Hoar, Watonga – Hoar, who won the Kingfisher meet and finished second at the Watonga meet earlier this season, is a strong contender to win the Class 2A title. She finished third a year ago to help Watonga win the Class A team title.
Hillarie Kessler, Deer Creek – The junior is one of the best long distance runners in the state. She will look to finish one spot higher this year after finishing as the runner-up in the 5A state meet a year ago.
Rachel Roberts, Guthrie – She was a super sophomore a year ago, finishing sixth in the 4A meet among several impressive finishes. She has continued her strong running this year in 5A.
Megan Watson, Edmond North – The leader of a talented team that is the favorite to win its second straight state championship, this year in 6A. She finished 10th at state a year ago.
Jill Enge, Edmond Memorial – She leads a veteran team that could make big improvements this year at the 6A meet. Look for her to also improve on her 15th place finish a year ago.
Angelica Martinez, Norman – A talented runner who gets overshadowed a lot, but is one to watch make a run for the 6A state title. She finished fifth at the 5A meet a year ago.
Kendra Mann, Harrah – The leader of a talented team. She, along with her team, is strong contenders for the 5A state championship. She finished fourth a year ago as the team finished runner-up in 4A.
Lizzy Whitbeck, Bishop McGuinness – Another in a long line of talented Fighting Irish cross country runners who looks to finish in the top 10 this year in 5A. She finished 12th a year ago, which was third best on a title team. McGuinness has captured four straight 4A state titles and 18 overall.
Mary Tiger, Shawnee – She is one of the strongest runners on a balanced Wolves team in 5A that will be looking to improve on its fourth place finish at the 4A state meet a year ago.
Jori Davis, Piedmont – Davis started the season strong, finishing first in several meets. She will look to continue the impressive running at the 4A meet. She finished ninth a year ago in 3A.
Kelli Quimby, Hennessey – She showed that she is a runner to fear in 2A after finishing second at the talent filled OCU meet earlier this year. She will look to improve on a ninth place finish at the Class A meet a year ago.
Katie Krepel, Kingfisher – She had several top five finishes this year for the 3A Yellowjackets. With that strong start, she will look to improve on a sixth place finish in 2A last season.
Boys to Watch
Parker Bowles, Norman – The junior finished fifth in the Class 5A meet a year ago and is the West side’s best shot to win the 6A state meet dominated by East side runners.
Dakota Buck, Deer Creek – The leader of a young team looking to win its third straight team title, this time in 5A after winning two in a row on 4A. The team is inexperienced after a senior-laden team last year. Buck finished second to former teammate Adam Young a year ago.
Brett Scott, Bishop McGuinness – He is the lead runner for the Fighting Irish and has had several impressive finishes this season in 5A.
Jonathan Reames, Shawnee – He is the leader of a talented team that should compete for the 5A state championship. He finished eighth at the 4A state meet last year.
Nigel Hampton, Watonga – He has been nearly unstoppable this season, winning four meets in a row to start the season. He is a favorite to win the Class 2A state title after finishing 14th in Class A last season.
Brian Wilson, Edmond Memorial – He is one of several young runners for the Bulldogs who will be looking to make an impact at the 6A state meet.
Josh Ramirez, Moore – He had an impressive victory in a talented field at the OCU meet earlier this season. He finished 14th a year ago in the 5A state meet. He is the top runner on possibly the best 6A team on the West side, one that finished third at the state meet last season.
Andy Carroll, Mustang – He is a talented runner who is looking to get Mustang back as one of the elite teams in 6A.
Ricky Sanchez, Western Heights – He captured first in the Yukon meet and second at the OCU meet earlier this year. He is a dark horse runner to watch make an impact at the 6A meet.
Ethan Pollock, Edmond Santa Fe – He had a strong start to the season and looks to have a top 10 finish at the 6A meet.
Dates to Remember
Oct. 25 -- Class 2A and 3A state meets at Gordon Cooper Vo-tech in Shawnee
Nov. 1 – Class 4A, 5A and 6A state meets at Mitch Park in Edmond
Note: The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association has reclassified the cross country classes to match up with the other sports. The old classification was A-5A. Now, it has changed to 2A-6A with every team moving up a class
