Norcross senior Al-Farouq Aminu and Wesleyan junior Anne Marie Armstrong, who led their schools to state championships two weeks ago, were chosen Mr. and Miss Georgia Basketball, respectively, by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.
The 6-foot-9 Aminu, who will play at Wake Forest, averaged 23 points, 11 rebounds and 2.7 assists to lead the nationally ranked Blue Devils to their third consecutive Class AAAAA championship.
Armstrong, a 6-2 guard, averaged 19.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists as the Wolves won their second title in three seasons. She enters her senior season with 1,585 career points.
The ATC also named Dunwoody center Chris Singleton and Stephenson guard Jylisa Williams as the Atlanta Players of the Year. All award winners and the 60-team all-metro team will be honored on March 25 at the ATC banquet at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.
Aminu and Singleton will participate in the McDonald's All-American game March 26 in Milwaukee. The AJC will publish its all-state team on March 30.
