Regular Season Nov 8, 2009
Louisiana's top-ranked team came ready to play, despite concerns about loved ones at home dealing with Hurricane Gustav. John Curtis took an early lead and played keep-away, limiting Trinity to only one possession in the first quarter. But, Trinity scored late in the first half to take a 7-6 lead and capitalized on Patriots miscues in the third quarter to pull away, eventually winning 28-12. With the running game finding little room, the Trojans turned to the air in the second half. QB Denarius McGhee was 7-for-13 for 129 yards and no interceptions, including one exhilarating completion on a busted play. Stetson Smith led the Trojans receivers with four catches for 79 yards. He also had one rush for 29 yards.
