Westfield will be tough in 2008

Houston, TX

Friday, August 15, 2008

Ever since exploding on the Houston area football scene in 2004, The Westfield Mustangs have had continued success through the years and will field yet another highly competitive, extremely athletic team capable of great things. After a 10-3 season a year ago in which they were regional semi-finalists, the Mustangs will return five starters on either side of the ball and will be tested early with games against Cy-Falls and Beaumont Westbrook in Weeks one and two respectively. The QB who led the Mustangs to third round, Jacoby Walker, will return for his junior season. This being his second year calling the shots, expect Walker to make considerable improvements in his decision making, accuracy, and overall composure in the pocket. Walker will be flanked by a trio of receivers, any of which could be a #1 receiver for just about any school in Houston. Barry Ford (6-foot-1 190), Ja-Mes Logan (6-foot-2 190) and Adam Watson (5-foot-10 170) make up the trio, and all should be receiving a D-I scholarships if they already haven't. In the backfield, Westfield, like many other schools, will feature a thunder and lightning ground game. RB Roland Hannah will be the thunder and get the starting nod, with RB Jamarcus Morning playing the role of lightning. Both will get many carries. Up front OL John Jones, Thomas Robertson and Bayo Dadojutimi will look to do the dirty work that's needed for any team to advance. Defensively the Mustangs won't be near as sharp as on the offensive side, but should be competent enough to preserve a lead if needed. DE Aaron Harris, who played very much last year, will start for the first time this year. The other DE will be Austin Mayes. At linebacker Jerre Camille will team up with Brandon Denman to provide leadership and solid tackling ability. In the defensive backfield, S Denerick Denby has the size to match up with tight ends and speed to cover any receiver in district 13-5A. He will have some help with CB Sherrod Daniels helping from the outside.
