KBCA All-Star Game Set to Tip Off Tonight

The 2008 Kansas Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game will be held tonight at Lee Arena on the campus of Washburn University in Topeka. The game is being played for th 28th time. Ken Mahoney of Dorrance will receive the Clint Hill Service Award for his work in the KBCA. In addition, the Greensburg High School Girls and Boys Basketball Teams will be honored with the Don Jones Memorial Coaches Courage Award for their outstanding resilience in the aftermath of the tornado in May of 2007. The girls game will tip off first at 6:00 P.M. Stana Jefferson, who led the Andover Central girls to an undefeated state title season this past winter, will coach the South, including her star player Bailey Gee. Gee, who will play at Missouri next year, joins other area players Heather Robben of Maize, Jennifer Lane of Wichita Heights, Megan Patrick of Central Christian and Camille Kahrs of Dexter. The North girls will be led by Jadhken Kerr of Olathe South and Katie Henry of Riley County, and coached by Kristin Mallory of Lawrence, Kristin Wiebe of Berean Academy, and Harold Oliver of Riley County. Class 6A boys state champ Wichita Southeast leads the South boys team with three players chosen. Point guard Adonis Gantt, shooting guard Jordan Cyphers and forward Cortez Barnes will play in the all-star game. Fellow City League players Lance Russell of South, Garrius Holloman of East and Kelton Marshall of Heights also made the team. Gantt, Barnes, Russell, Holloman and Marshall will continue as teammates at Cowley College next year. Players from the last two 3A state title teams will also be represented. Cole Graddy, who led Trinity Academy in Wichita to the 3A title this past March, will play alongside Cole Fiegel, a 3A champ with Wichita Collegiate in 2007. The South will be led by Carl Taylor of Southeast, Mark Applegate of Montezuma South Gray, and David Swank of Wichita Trinity. The North boys squad will be paced by state champion guard Adrian Herrera from Topeka Highland Park and Jordan Broxterman of Frankfort. Ken Darting of Highland Park, Wayhne Cichon of Pittsburg Colgan, and Ted Schuler of Topeka Hayden will instruct the North. The boys game is expected to begin around 8:15.
