Rejuvenated Rebels Earn National Title

Dallas, TX

Thursday, July 31, 2008

Heading into the second day of the Adidas 7-on-7 National Championships, things didn't look so good for Richland. The Rebels won only one of four games on the first day of competition. But as they say, that's why they play the games. Richland rebounded to coast to the national title, culminated with a 32-0 whitewashing of Jupiter Christian (Fla.) in the title game. Receiver Phillip Anderson was named the MVP of the tournament. He had a pair of TD catches in the championship game. The Texas state champions gave up only 20 points in three games on Thursday. Like they did in the state championship game, the Rebels played without Phillip Gonzales, who injured his shoulder. In marching to the championship game, Richland defeated two of the teams it lost to in pool play.
