In the previous article I discussed the first three of ten keys to being successful. The first three keys to success are: 1. Confidence in Yourself 2. Resilience 3. Overcoming Resistance The remaining keys to success are as follows: 4. Commit Your Time to Your Success A. The only time that you have is your time. You have to use it wisely and make the most from it. Make sure you learn at your own pace outside the classroom. I always tell the learner if they just put in an hour a day outside the classroom it will make them an expert in less than a year. Learning is a joy. B. Perform searches on the Internet and search engines, such as "Google" for things that you are interested in that will supplement your material. This will help you in your preparation and growth. C. Don't waste your time; it is precious. There is supplemental information in the manual that talks about time wasters and it is great for conversation. 5. Keep Learning A. Continue to search for material relative to your interest, subscribe to a monthly magazine, or organizations that provide good learning tools like Mind Trotters. Make notes on how you can keep learning. Find a friend, mentor, or join a networking group. It is pretty interesting how much Discovery Channel, videos or media could be referred to for developmental material. 6. Don't Let Other's Opinions and Precautions Stop You A. You have to first believe in yourself. Sometimes when you are in a situation where it is uncomfortable you have to learn how to handle it. Do not let it influence the way you feel about yourself. B. Think about it! You work in an office and you are on a team that is selected to work on a project. One person in the group is constantly gossiping behind your back and undermining your performance. How would you address it? C. Encouragement is essential. Make sure you remain positive in the group. 7. Make Necessary Change A. Change is one of the hardest things people can do. B. Find a perfectionist in the room and they will tell you why everything has a place and why everything needs to be there. Change is mind-blowing to them. C. Think about why change is difficult. List your reasons. 8. Take Time to De-Stress A. What do you do for enjoyment and relaxation? B. De-stressing is extremely important in helping you fulfill your goal(s). Here are some things to consider. 1. Read or listen to audio while driving. 2. Just sit quietly outside in the sunshine and relax. 3. Walk in a setting you have never been in before. 4. Listen to soothing music (something you might never listen to and learn to appreciate the difference). 9. Don't Jump to Conclusions A. Be objective until you get the required information to make a sound decision. Understanding is essential to making a firm decision. 10. Be Willing to Grow From Your Mistakes A. Don't let your daily mistakes define who you are and stop trying. Instead, address your mistakes as a student of the process. You should simply learn from them. B. No one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes. It is how we respond to errors that either cause us to fail or press through to a brighter day. The difference is either to react or to respond. Reacting is a physical response, which normally creates a hostile environment; on the other hand a response is related to thinking about the best way to address the situation.
