Former high school standout, pitcher Jake Peavy, continues his winning ways. Annouced on Thursday, Peavy's latest triumph...unanimously winning the National League Cy Young Award, given to the most outstanding pitcher. Peavy graduated from St. Paul's Episcopal School in Alabama. While he was there he posted a 44-1 record through his four seasons. This season, he led the National League in just about every pertinent category in 2007 -- victories (19), ERA (2.54), strikeouts (240) and strikeouts per nine innings (9.67). Peavy also started the All-Star Game in July in San Francisco.
Finishing second in the Cy Young this year was Brandon Webb. Webb played his high school ball at Paul G. Blazer High School in Ashland, Kentucky and graduated in 1997. From there he went on to star for the Kentucky Wildcats and then on to the bigs. In 2006, he was the winner of the Cy Young and has since formed a charity called the K Foundation. With the K Foundation, he has "Brandon's Locker". "Brandon's Locker" enriches the lives of ill children by providing them with welcome gifts and the use of age appropriate, medically sound mobile interactive electronics consisting of notebook computers, DVD players, i-pods and Leap Frog Learning Systems, as well as games, books and toys. During treatment and recovery, these patients are able to enjoy these interactive electronics, games, books and toys...all available in "Brandon's Locker".
