The Cardinal Mooney Cardinals (Youngstown) continue their run through the 2007 season as they pursue the state championship in the tough football state of Ohio. The Cardinals are trying to repeat as state champions after winning two of the last three, in 2004 and 2006. They finished as the state runners up in 2005 to Coldwater. They are currently on a 26-game winning streak and don’t look to stop that now.

Head coach P.J. Fecko, has this team focused on the task at hand…beating Steubenville in this week’s monster playoff matchup. The Big Red are also undefeated and 12-0 in their season. This Saturday, something has to give.

Offensively, both Cardinal Mooney and Steubenville are nearly identical in point scored, with 30.6 and 32.8 respectively.

The Cardinals are loaded with talent. Michael Zordich (LB) committed to Penn State in early June, Danny McCarthy (S) committed to Notre Dame in the middle of July, and Brandon Beachum (LB) and Taylor Hill (LB) committed to Penn State and Oklahoma in late July. These are big time kids for coach Fecko and they have it in their mindset to go out as champions in their senior season.

Just because of the Cardinals’ talent, Steubenville will not be intimidated.
