VYPE Wraps Up Football Filled Week

Raleigh Durham, NC

Friday, June 26, 2009

VYPE has wrapped up a long week of roaming the Triangle to visit all of the great football events that have been happening on our local fields.

This past Saturday, June 20, The David Garrard Foundation hosted its "Air It Out" Football and Cheerleading Camp at Southern High School in Durham. Currently a Jacksonville Jaguar, Garrard returned to Southern HS, where he played football before heading to ECU, and was joined by other top NFL active and retired players from the Jaguars, New Orleans Saints, Washington Redskins, Oakland Raiders, NFL Cheerleaders, and local college coaches.

Campers ranged in age from six to 17 years, and were split into small groups allowing them to receive more individual attention. The camps are designed to promote physical activity and educate campers on the importance of teamwork, education, health and nutrition.

Also in Durham, Northern Football hosted its 1st Annual Golden Nights Football Camp this week. A group of about 20 young athletes attended the 4-day workshop to receive one-on-one help from Northern coaches, football alum, and current football team members. Head Coach Anthony Sullivan plans to make the camp a tradition for years to come.

Northern also held a 7-on-7 on Friday, June 26. Coach Sullivan said athletes from Jordan, Southern, Riverside and Knightdale would join the Northern team for a fun football Friday.

Additionally, Cardinal Gibbons played host to New York Jets' Noel Mazzone's N-Zone Football Camp. Athletes from all over the Triangle joined forces for the 3-day camp.
