Delimont Adjusts at K-State

Melanie Delimont, senior leader of the 2007 Andover volleyball team which placed fourth at 4A state, is making the move to the next level at Kansas State. Delimont was named first-team all-class in 4A by the Kansas Volleyball Coaches Association and was first-team all-tournament at state last October. After a sparkling prep career, she's moved on to Manhattan and is readying for her first season as a walk-on at K-State. The Wildcats perennially earn a berth in the NCAA tournament. Delimont moved up to Manhattan two weeks ago to begin taking summer classes and working out with the team. "We do workouts and lift four days a week, and there's open gym throughout the week," said Delimont after making it through her first two days of workouts. "They gave me a book for working out for half of May and all of June [before moving to Manhattan]. "Running was really hard yesterday, doing sprints with no air conditioning. "It's really exciting to be up here," Delimont continued. "I'm ready to get it started, get through the first week. I'm already taking a summer class." Alongside the increased work rate the K-State program demands, college life has also been an adjustment. Delimont said she has three other roommates, all of whom are also on the team. "All the girls are really nice," she said. "The upperclassmen help with the weightlifting and lead all the open gyms. It's still very intense without the coaches there." Kansas State finished in the top 20 last year. "It's a lot different, a lot faster pace," Delimont said. "It takes some getting used to it."
