By the age of 11 most of us had figured out what subjects we liked best in school and what sport we enjoyed playing. For 11 year old Aaron Bickert, trying to figure out football has been a challenge, but he accepts and enjoys a good challenge.
At the age of six he took up the sport of Tae Kwon Do while living in Texas. His goal was to become a black belt. After only two years of hard work and dedication he reached that goal at the age of eight. He studied weapons, forms and sparing and began to excel in each. In 2006 Aaron placed 3rd in Forms and 2nd in Weapons at the Texas State Championships. That accomplishment fueled his desire to win it all the nest year.
After a move that brought him to Tulsa, Aaron began his training for the 2007 Oklahoma State Championships. At that event he placed first in all three categories, Forms, Weapons and Sparing. In July of 2007 he earned his 2nd degree as a black belt.
The World Championships were held in Little Rock, Arkansas which is a sanctioned event by the ATA (American Tae Kwon Do Association) and the WTF (World Tae Kwon Do Federation). The tournament brings kids from all every corner of the world. Countries like Brazil, South Africa and Japan send representatives to compete. When the week long event ended, Aaron was a World Champion in Weapons.
But Tae Kwon Do isn’t the only thing that interests the Holland Hall middle schooler. He’s currently playing football and loves soccer, tennis and golf. But he remains dedicated to his training and every morning at 5am he rises on his own to stretch and practice before school. Aaron also practices on the piano and makes straight A’s.
The Olympics could be in this young mans future, but whatever he decides he wants to do, I’m sure he’ll be the very best.
