My Backyard Bowl Week

Saturday, September 1, 2007

"Go Union Redskins" is only one of the many fight chants that will be reiterated this week. It's that time again to take it to the backyard. At Chapman Stadium the Redskins will take on the Trojans Friday night. Being the fanatic Redskin that I am, the whole week will be spirit-filled with school pride. My to-do-list is super long. I will have to purchase t-shirts, tickets, horns for the game, and much more. If I wrote in a journal of my whole week, it would look like this: Monday: Think Pink! Shirts went on sale today for $15 now $20 at the door! I've got to hurry up and get mine. I need to find a game crew to go to game with. Tuesday: Beam Green! Today was just another day at Union High School. I went ahead and bought my ticket to the game. It's always good to be prepared. Wednesday: True Blue! According to spirit week, I wore blue today. It's time to hit the mall to get the outfit of the week. Thursday: Mellow Yellow! I bought my t-shirt before the prices went up. Paying fifteen dollars was better than twenty dollars. It never fails that the teacher gives tests on the busiest day of your life. The Rush to tickets was amazingly large. Good thing I got mine early. Friday: Red and Black attack! As soon as I woke up this morning I packed my bags for the game tonight. At school, music played before each class. My fanatic teammates and I begged the teachers for no homework and tests. The student scores once again! We went had a pre-game party Freddy's for lunch. Of course the Redskins student council threw a crazy-cool Pep rally bashing the Trojans. I rushed home and put on my game night t-shirt and outfit, then headed to the tailgating party. There all of the die-hard Union enjoyed b-b-q and got tatted up for the game. Union TP Crew, Scottish Skins, and all other spirit group began to get the crowd hyped. Now it's game time! The Backyard Bowl takes more than just buying tickets and finding a ride. It comes with pre-planning and a budget. Union, being the best in the game of high school football, has created a legacy with Jenks using this tradition. The Backyard Bowl is more than a game. It's a holiday. It's a part of high school life.
