Boys Track Who won: Beaver (Class A), Tonkawa (2A), Millwood (3A), Bishop McGuinness (4A), Ardmore (5A), Midwest City (6A). How'd it happen: Millwood won the state meet easily, beating runner-up Heritage Hall by 30 points. The Falcons collected 116 points to run away with the team title. Millwood set several state records and the Falcon sprinters dominated in the running events. They won in the 100, 200, 400 meter runs and in the 400 and 1,600 meter relays. Bishop McGuinness didn't dominate in any single events, but came out among the top in most of them. McGuinness captured the high jump, the 1,600-meter relays, and the 3,200-meter run. Midwest City's competitors were consistently among the top finishers. The Bombers won the long jump along with the 400 and 1,600-meter relays. Who surprised: Omari Blair, Southeast (5A): Blair pulled an upset in the 200-meter dash finals after finishing second in preliminaries. He beat Metro Christian's David Fitter by four seconds with a time of 22.35 seconds. Blair also finished second in the 100. Steven Perry, McGuinness (4A): Perry is a soccer star who showed he can jump as well. Perry, who has signed to play soccer at Notre Dame, won the high jump by two feet with an attempt of 6-feet, 6-inches. Jack Whitt, Norman North (6A): Whitt won the pole vault by four inches with a vault of 15-feet over a competitive field. Who impressed: Millwood sprinter Nick Fowler (3A): He won the 100, finished second in the 200 to teammate Gil Roberts and helped the Falcons win the 400-meter relays. Robert Foster, Moore (6A): Foster captured the 400-meter dash with a run of 48.65 seconds. Quinton Prince, Heritage Hall (3A): Prince transferred his football strength onto the track. Prince, who has signed with Oklahoma State, won the shot put with a throw of 51-feet, 6.75 inches. It was nearly two feet farther than his nearest competitor. Alex Madkins, Midwest City (6A): Madkins captured the long jump title with a jump of 22-feet, 9-inches. Donte Foster, Guthrie (5A): Foster won the high jump with a successful attempt of 6-feet, 8-inches. Mac McLain, McGuinness (4A): McLain continued the Fighting Irish success in the long distance runs, winning the 3,200-meter run. Trent Ratterree, Weatherford (4A): The standout tight end for the football team can also throw. He easily won the discus throw with a toss of 155-feet, 10 inches, winning by more than four feet. Lanisha Medicinebear, Watonga (3A): Medicinebear sure has a strong arm. She won both the discus throw and the shot put. Adam Young, Deer Creek (5A): Young controlled the 3,200-meter run, winning by more than 10 seconds with a run of 9 minutes, 40.87 seconds. Gary Frazier, Shawnee (5A): Frazier won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.79 seconds. Jevin Colbert, Putnam City North (6A): Colbert won the high jump with an attempt of 6-feet, 6-inches. Record breakers: Millwood's Gil Roberts (3A): He didn't just star on the football team; he did it on the track as well. Roberts won two events individually and three all together. In the two individual events, he broke state record times in the preliminaries and went on to eventually win in the finals. He set state records in the 200 (20.77) and 400 (46.53). He capped that with a team title in the 1,600-meter relays. Quintell Wilson, Edmond North (6A): Wilson set a state meet record and tied the state record in the 800-meter run with a time of 1 minute, 51.70 seconds to win. He broke the old record of 1:52.31. Cameron Tabor, Norman (6A): Tabor left no doubt to who would win the shot put and the discus throws, winning both easily. He cleared his closest competitor in the shot put by more than 11 feet with a toss of 63-feet, 1.50 inches, a state meet record. He also had a discus throw of 186-10. Double trouble: Justin Viewins, Carl Albert (5A): Viewins won both the 400 and 800-meter runs. Josh Doyle, Watonga (3A): Doyle continued Watonga's impressive success in the long distance runs. He won both the 1,600-meter and the 3,200-meter runs. He won both by more than five seconds. Kevin Schwab, Mustang (6A): Schwab, possibly the most talented long distance runner in Oklahoma high school history, capped his stellar career in style. Schwab, who won three straight cross country titles, won state championships in the 1,600=meter and 3,200-meter runs. D'Andre Fisher, Edmond Santa Fe (6A): Fisher dominated the hurdle competitions, winning the 110 and 300-meter hurdles. One story you might have missed: The Millwood and Bishop McGuinness boys programs dominated the sports season this year. The Falcons and Fighting Irish finished up a fantastic year with a team track title. That gave them both three team state titles this year. Millwood and McGuinness also won football titles last December and captured their second straight basketball championships in March. Millwood and McGuinness became just the second and third boy's teams to win all three titles in the same season since the 1944-45 season. The first program was the 1991-92 Ardmore teams. Girls Track Who won: Beaver (Class A), Coalgate (2A), Plainview (3A), Douglass (4A), Tulsa East Central (5A), Tulsa Union (6A). How'd it happen: Douglass captured the team title with 87 points, beating runner-up Idabel by 11 points. Douglass did it by controlling the track, despite not winning a field event. The Trojans swept the hurdles, captured both the 400 and 1,600-meter relays and the 400-meter dash. Who surprised: Tyler Henderson, Heritage Hall (3A): Henderson beat some tough competition in the high jump to come out on top. She had a jump of 5-feet, 4-inches, beating five jumpers by two inches. Chrissy Chavez, Shawnee (5A): Chavez beat a competitive and wide open field in the pole vault with a successful attempt of 11-feet. Who impressed: Toni Young, Del City (5A): Young dominated the high jump, getting an attempt of 5-feet, 8-inches to win by six inches. Amanda Davis, Guthrie (5A): Davis cruised to an easy victory in the 3,200-meter run, winning by more than six seconds with a time of 11 minutes, 54.97 seconds. April Hale, Weatherford (4A): Hale's not just a standout on the basketball court where she helped the Eagles win a state title. She is also good on the field. She won the shot put with a throw of 42-feet, 2-inches. This throw was more than two feet longer than her closest opponent. Shayla Smith, Guthrie (5A): Smith captured a shot put title with a throw of 39-feet, 7-inches. Katelin Cherry, Westmoore (6A): The cross country standout is also a good long distance runner on the track. She captured the 3,200-meter run for the second straight year, winning by more than 16 seconds this season. Kelli Quimbey, Hennessey (2A): Quimbey controlled the 3,200-meter run, winning by almost 10 seconds over the second-place finisher with a time of 12-minutes, 37.48 seconds. Lauren Marsh, Edmond Santa Fe (6A): The sophomore won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.45 seconds. Kylie Cooper, Edmond North (6A): Cooper won a pole vault state title by more than six inches with a successful attempt of 10-feet, 6-inches. Rachel Roberts, Guthrie (5A): Roberts captured the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5-minutes, 28.36 seconds. Tia Moore, Midwest City (6A): Moore had a shot put throw of 44-feet, 8-inches to win a state title by more than four feet. It was her third-straight shot put first-place medal. Who starred: Washington's Krista Beaty (2A): The junior continues the Warriors' excellence on the track. She won four events - two individually and two as part of a relay team. She captured the 100 and the high jump for the second time in three years. Then she teamed up with her teammates to win the 400 and 800-meter relays. Those titles add to the basketball title she was a part of in March. Samantha Hallman, Douglass (4A): Hallman continues to out run and out jump the competition on the track. The hurdle specialist swept the hurdle competitions, winning the 100 and 300 events by at least a second. She set a state meet record in the 300 at 43.68 seconds. Carissa Levingston, Midwest City (6A): Levingston set a state record in the 200 with a time of 23.89 seconds to win and break the old record by 25 seconds. Double duty: Krista Stevens, Heritage Hall (3A): Stevens medaled in the three events she participated in. The sophomore won the long jump at 17-feet, 7.75-inches and finished third in the 200 and 400. Jourdan Clark, Carl Albert (5A): Clark swept the hurdle competitions, winning the 100 and 300. Kristen Mays, Amber-Pocassett (2A): Mays dominated in both events she competed in, the 400-meter dash and the long jump. She won the 400 (1.00.29) by more than a second and the long jump (17-10.00) by over a foot against the second-place finisher. Molly Ferguson, Bishop McGuinness (4A): Ferguson moved her cross country excellence to the track. She captured the 1,600-meter run and finished second in the 3,200-meters. Mika Brown, Douglass (4A): The sprinter used her speed well, capturing the 400 dash by over a second and helping the Trojans win the 400 and 1,600-meter relays. One story you might have missed: Douglass won its first track state championship in school history. It was a long time coming for the Trojans, who had finished in the top three the previous three seasons, including runner-up to Idabel the last two years. The Trojans did it by excelling on the track.
