Moratorium Week: June 30-July 6

Central Indiana, IN

Monday, June 30, 2008

Once a year, student-athletes don't have to worry about the latter portion of their title. Today (Monday, June 30) marks the beginning of the annual Moratorium Week set by the IHSAA. From June 30 through July 6, schools and coaches are simply not allowed to have any contact with their players. In the words of the IHSAA, "During this seven-day period, there shall be no contact between athletes and coaches and no athletic activities, including conditioning, conducted." Well, looks like it's time to hit the couch, catch up on soap operas and the latest and greatest in the world of video games. Or you could get outside, catch some sun and hang out with your best buddies. This year's Moratorium Week could be described as "family-friendly", with the 4th of July falling on Friday, allowing the chance to make holiday trips without hesitation. Once it's all over, training for fall sports will hit full stride well before the school year gets started. Get your rest and hydrate well this week, as the dog days of summer will soon follow out on the practice fields.
