I met Ryan Leath my freshman year through our basketball program here at Edmond Memorial High School. He soon became one of my best friends as we progressed together throughout our freshman season.

I had no idea that he was about to endure three years of recovery and pain with his ankles. Ryan Leath is one of the hardest workers on our team and he gives his all everyday in practice.

When Ryan had his first ankle injury, it was actually toward the end of his football season. He was not only injured physically, but emotionally as well. Basketball season was rolling around about this time and Ryan was hurt. It was hard for him to overcome this, but he didn’t give up, not for a second. When he was fully recovered and ready to hit the floor again, he injured it for the second time. This made it even harder for him to press on once again, but he did it and never once complained about it. I have a lot of respect for Ryan and how he handles life, throughout all the obstacles he has overcome.

Ryan is a very strong-willed guy and I am honored to be his friend.

Ryan and I are best friends and it’s hard for me to watch him struggle when he doesn’t deserve to be injured at all. Even though Ryan has gone through so much and has hit rock bottom with all his injuries, he still finds a way to get the job done. This is a rare quality that you can’t find in many people, but for Ryan, it’s just an every day life thing.
