Classen junior and U.S. Grant football player Coreon Milligan
When I say football artists, what comes to mind?
Is it Lynn Swann making one of his many Super Bowl catches? Is it Peyton Manning reading the defense before a great throw? Is it the Steel Curtain of Pittsburgh or the Purple People Eaters of Minnesota?
For one U.S. Grant linebacker, it means so much more.
Coreon Milligan has been playing football since he was 5. The junior plays for U.S. Grant, and attends Classen School of Advanced Studies.
He’s known for his aggressive style of play.
“On the field I’m an animal, real loose, a beast,” he said.
Sure, he’s an artist on the gridiron, but there’s more to Coreon than meets the eye. He’s also an artist with a canvas.
“He has a way with shading and makes a statement, or at least allows people to see the hip-hop culture in a new way,” said Jo Nguyen, a junior at Classen.
Coreon’s art has won competitions and is also some of the most incredible on campus.
Karin Stafford, an art teacher at Classen, describes him as “a superb artist.” “His work is high-quality and realistic. It’s very expressive,” she said.
But even past the football, past the art, there’s still the person. He makes an impression. Coreon is often described as confident, friendly, sociable, and multi-talented by his friends and classmates.
“He’s an exceptional person, very respectful of others,” Stafford said.
Despite the confidence, he still maintains a hard work ethic and strong faith.
“Be the best. Try your best. But for the things you can’t do just look up and pray for the rest,” he said.
