DISTRICT 8-5A It shocked few that Southlake Carroll took both the boys and girls team trophies in 8-5A. The Dragons and Lady Dragons have established themselves as one of the premier programs in North Texas. They proved it again at the district meet. "Overall, it was a banner day for the Dragons at the Carroll Aquatic Center," said Carroll head coach Kevin Murphy. "The other teams were ready also, and our Dragons took what they had and fought back exceptionally well." DISTRICT 7-5A The Trinity girls ran away with the team title, while L.D. Bell fought off South Grand Prairie for second place. Jesuit swam away with the boys title, but Trinity and L.D. Bell made nice showings. Patti Massie, coach of the Trinity and Bell teams, was pleased with the efforts of all her squads. "The girls for Trinity, literally every single girl swam their personal best times at the district meet," Massie said. "And most of the boys, too. Everybody worked really hard for that meet." DISTRICT 5-5A Despite having only six swimmers, Arlington Lamar claimed the boys title, edging out Bowie and Arlington High. The Vikings' Sean Chang helped make that possible with two gold medals. Arlington High's Johanna Baker won two gold medals for the third consecutive year, but it wasn't enough for the Lady Colts, which finished fourth. Martin took the 5-5A girls title, in part due to the efforts of freshman Lauren Richey, who also won two events. DISTRICT 4-5A Mansfield won both the boys and girls titles. Newcomer Mansfield Legacy earned an impressive second-place finish in the girls team standings. North Crowley edged out Granbury for second place in the boys events. "For the most part we were very pleased with how our kids performed at the district meet," said Mansfield head swimming coach Cody Huckabay. "Especially exciting was the fact that MHS, LHS, and THS were able to finish 1,2,3 in the girls meet. Quite an accomplishment for Legacy being a first-year school." Though Granbury finished third in the boys and fourth in the girls, head coach Casey Pacheco was pleased with his teams' efforts. "We were lead by our top three seniors: Daniel Harber, Seabre Pope, and Xela Steenberge," Pacheco said. "They have been very dependable as the year has progressed. Our sophomores and juniors really swam well and had personal best swims in almost every event." Timberview coach Charlton Bruton also had praise for his club. "My kids did a wonderful job. They have worked extremely hard all season and finished exactly where they should have."
