Rogers surprised no one by sweeping both the boys’ and girls’ cross country titles at the Class 7A state meet in Hot Springs on Nov. 10.

The Mounties were led by Aaron Hamilton’s record-setting performance. He bested the Oaklawn Park course record by 16 seconds when he finished in 15 minutes, 30 seconds. That was only 25 seconds ahead of teammate Taylor Surley, who finished runner-up followed by Mounties’ Forrest Roth and Jordan Falls. In all, the Mounties placed seven runners in the top eight spots.

For the girls, the Lady Mounties had three runners in the top 10 including Natalia Guerrero, who won the event with a time of 18:51. Courtney Efurd was third with a time of 19:17 and Cameron Efurd was sixth.

Bentonville’s Mackenzie Bloom came in fourth and teammate Katie Dalton was seventh. Springdale Har-Ber’s Kimberly Peek finished eighth and Sydney Foreman was ninth.

It was the third time since 2003 that both the Mounties and Lady Mounties won the state cross country championship. That makes a whopping 30 cross country state titles for coach Carlton Efurd’s Rogers teams over the past two decades.

Harrison was the boys’ Class 5A meet as Luke Allen and James Straubel took first and second place, respectively, to help the Goblins outdistance runner-up Siloam Springs, which was led by Ryan Ostrander (11th) and Wesley Packard (13th).

Berryville’s Aaron Edwards won the boys’ Class 4A title after running the course in 16:51.

In Class 3A, Shiloh Christian won the boys’ team title paced by freshman Robert Peiser’s second place finish and sophomore Andrew Evans fifth place finish.

Green Forest won the 3A girls title led by Maranda Dickinson (4th), Kamarra Hope (7th), Whitney McCoy (8th) and Neisha Ball (10th). Elkins’ sophomore Grace Heymsfield won the event for the second consecutive year going away by 1:42, coming in at 19:06.
