Prestonwood Christian Academy’s cheerleading program hopes to add to its trophy case
As busy Collin County residents speed down the Dallas North Tollway near the bustling four corners where it intersects Park Blvd., they may not realize that they’re within a few football fields of a national championship team.
Prestonwood Christian Academy is home to the defending Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders (FCC) National Champions. Actually, the PCA competitive cheer team owns a few more national titles, too.
The PCA team went undefeated during last season’s competitions. The PCA competitive cheer program, now in its eighth season, took home titles from the National Cheerleading Association and were selected AB Grand Champions, FCC Grand Champions, and the Spirit Series Grand Champions.
Director Krista Godbee is hoping her squad experiences similar success this season.
“The girls work really hard, deal with injuries and never give up,” Godbee said.
PCA Cheer includes 33 girls competing on teams from seventh grade through 12th grade, all charged with performing state-of-the-art cheerleading techniques while maintaining Christian standards. Godbee also requires academic excellence from her squad members and charges them to “be the best that they can be.”
“I love working with the Prestonwood squad because they are very respectful, they try hard and have great spirits,” Godbee said. “These girls have changed my life, and I hope I can make a difference in theirs.”
