Laredo United baseball coach J.J. Gomez's confidence in his team may create some tension Friday morning. That's when Gomez will sit down with Plano West coach Kendall Clark for the Class 5A state tournament pregame press conference in Round Rock. What's the fuss? In previewing the Wolves for the Laredo Morning Times, Gomez said "They're very similar to [San Antonio] Reagan and are very beatable if we keep playing the way we have been." Not sure this qualifies for Wolves bulletin board motivation, but it could provide ammunition for the West students section if their team jumps out to an early lead. Then again, Gomez may have reason to be confident. The Longhorns made it to state by sweeping nationally ranked Reagan after losing Game 1 of their Region IV finals series. You can check it out here. VYPE blogger Todd Wills will be on hand at the Dell Diamond Friday afternoon -- and hopefully Saturday -- to report on who yells what at whom.
