National Signing Day, February 6, saw several south central Kansas athletes make plans to play NCAA Division I athletics. Garden Plain running back and safety Logan Dold followed through on his commitment to Kansas State, which he made over a year ago, by signing with the Wildcats. Dold, who became the second-leading all-time rusher in Kansas state history this past season, is confident that he can battle for time on the offensive side of the ball for the Wildcats. Blaize Foltz, a 6-4, 270-pound offensive lineman, chose to play football at Texas Christian next season. As opposed to Dold's situation, Foltz did not make his decision until the final days leading up to signing day. By signing the letter of intent with TCU, Foltz becomes the first Division I signee from the Rose Hill football program. Kendall Gammon, a Rose Hill graduate who played in the NFL for 14 years as a long snapper, played at Pittsburg State. Iowa State signed two linemen from the area, Brayden Burris of Bishop Carroll and Dakota Zimmerman of Campus. Burris, 6-7 and 245 pounds, originally committed to Kansas State but switched to Iowa State. Zimmerman has been recruited to be a long snapper for the Cyclones. Twin sisters Kelsey and Kortney Clifton signed letters to play soccer at Kansas University next fall. They enter their senior seasons at Andover High alongside their sister Emily Hammond, who also signed to play at Hutchinson Community College, which will give the family three college players in the same class next year. Standout Kapaun forward Anthony Cantele, who ended his career with the Crusaders with 118 goals, signed to play soccer at Missouri State. The City League had two other public school football players join former Wichita East linebacker Arthur Brown as Division I signees. Wichita Northwest quarterback Chris Harper, who originally committed to Kansas State on December 17, 2007, backed out after the Wildcats lost their offensive coordinator James Franklin to Maryland. Harper signed with Oregon, a team in the national title chase last fall. Wichita North lineman Darius Parish also changed his mind during the recruiting process. Parish, 6-4 and 335 pounds, originally committed to Nebraska. The Cornhuskers' coach Bill Callahan was all but fired mid-season last fall, however, and Parish reopened the process. He signed with Kansas yesterday, a program that has never been more solid coming off their victory in the Orange Bowl. Bishop Carroll linebacker Bart Voegeli also has accepted preferred walk-on status at Kansas. Buhler midfielder Tyler Sellers, who scored 39 of his career 75 goals in his senior season, signed with Division I Valparaiso in Indiana.
