The Forest Lake boys golf team moved up one place from last season and took second at the Class AAA Boys State Golf Tournament after two days of play concluded June 3 at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids.
The Rangers, who were third in 2008, were one of three squads returning to the tourney from 2008 and carded a team score of 611 to place six strokes behind champion Wayzata. First-day leader Eden Prairie finished third with a 617.
Eastview was fourth with a 624, with Moorhead fifth at 628. Two other returnees from last year, Lakeville North and Anoka, took sixth and seventh with respective scores of 633 and 638, while Stillwater completed the team field with an eighth-place result of 644.
Forest Lake's Paul Moberg shared state individual championship honors with Eastview's Joe Petrulo as both seniors logged a 36-hole total tally of 148, with Wayzata senior Blake Vettel and Cambridge-Isanti juniorTy Liljander splitting third-place honors with each recording a 149.
Austin senior Drew Osier,Wayzata Junior Kyle Beversdorf and Brainerd junior Sean Halverson each recorded a 150 to divy up fifth-place, while Eden Prairie senior Mike Foreman and Forest Lake sophomore Shane Sampair both earned eighth-place medals after each shot a 151 to round out the medal round.
